When I was nine we moved to Australia and initially stayed with my Aunty Beryl in the outback miles from anywhere.

On on the third night there I was dragged out of bed, shoved in the car and driven away and as I looked back all I could see was a wall of flame ( 100 ft high reported in the papers the next day). Fortunately the wind changed direction at the last moment and the house and all our belongings were spared.

This is my memory of that night.
